Wood destroying insects (WDI’s) are wood-damaging insects that damage wood by tunneling through it to live, nest or feed. WDI’s can include Termites, Carpenter Ants, Carpenter Bees and Wood Boring Beetles. WDI’s often enter homes by accident while looking for a source of food or shelter. WDI’s can enter the home through small spaces found in windows, doors exterior walls and a homes foundation.
A WDI inspection is important because although small, these insects can cause significant damage. The average cost to repair termite damage is around $3,000. It is important to consult a professional with WDI’s because often times they can be difficult to detect. A trained professional looks for signs of WDI and can help catch the problem in the early stages to prevent more damage and costly repairs.
A Wood destroying insect inspection is a non-invasive visual inspection. Your inspector will look at the crawlspace, attic, exterior and other portions of your home that are more prone to WDI’s. The inspector looks for signs of WDI’s such as wood damage and dead or living WDI’s. The inspector may also give suggestions if they see an area that may be suitable for a WDI for example, water accumulation around the home or overgrown vegetation against home.
